The news of a human finger found in chocolate in Sri Lanka has created a stir. The incident took place in Mahianganaya area of ​​Uva province of Sri Lanka.


In this regard, when BBC Tamil contacted Mahianganaya Hospital, it was found that a woman working in the hospital's ECG department had bought chocolates from the hospital's cafeteria.


Health inspector Salman Paris told BBC Tamil: 'They bought locally produced chocolate on the 3rd. They ate some of it and kept the rest of the chocolate in the fridge. Then on Saturday (5th August) they ate it again.'


'Something hard came into his mouth while chewing chocolate. They thought it must be a dried fruit, so they chewed it hard but then realized it was something else. When he took it out of his mouth, it was a human finger.'


After the incident, the woman went to the office of the concerned government officer and lodged a complaint, after which the public health inspectors acting in this regard seized all the chocolates of the company from the shops in the area.



In this regard, the Public Health Inspector has submitted a report to the High Court Magistrate on Monday, August 7.

Public Health Inspector Salman Paris said on this issue that to know that the thing found in the chocolate is a human finger, it will be sent to the laboratory for scientific confirmation.

Currently, the seized chocolate is stored in the refrigerator of the Mahyanganaya Health Office. Inspector Salman Paris said that a formal case will be registered in this matter after the laboratory report.

In this regard, Dr. Sahan Samaraweera, Medical Officer of the Health Department in Mahayanganaya, while talking to BBC Tamil, said that 'human finger contamination in food products is a serious matter. There is no doubt that this is the chocolate company's fault. This information has been sent to the court.


On the day the news of the human finger being found in this chocolate was published, the sales representatives of the chocolate company reached the office of Mahyanganaya Health Officer and inquired about it. Later, other people from the concerned chocolate factory also reached the health officer's office after receiving the information.


Salman Paris, a public health inspector, stated that this incidence was unprecedented in Sri Lanka. Insects have been found in food before, but this is the first time human organs have been found in food. Therefore, we are consulting on what steps can be taken in this regard.
